Limited Edition FAQs

WHAT IS A LIMITED EDITION?
A Limited Edition is a limited run of a particular piece of artwork. Once an edition is closed, the print will not be reproduced again.
The Hartwick Collection editions are printed with the finest archival inks on 100% cotton rag paper. Each archival pigment print is hand-numbered and embossed on the lower left corner and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.  Prints are published exclusively by The Hartwick Collection and are available for purchase solely through this website.

For more information on Vintage Bollywood Art editions, see Limited Editions in the main menu.

HOW UNIQUE IS MY LIMITED EDITION ART?
Your piece is one of a very limited run of a well documented and established collection of art history. The prints are only available through The Hartwick Collection. Each archival pigment print is hand-numbered and embossed on the lower left corner, and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

WHY DO SOME OF THE ARTWORKS LOOK 'WEATHERED'?
The original artworks show the character of their rich history-- while some are in great condition, many have tattered corners, rain splatters, mildew residue, and uneven hand-cut edges. This authentic character has been retained in the print, giving it another dimension both visually and historically. The ephemeral nature of each showcard is captured in the print.

To learn more about the history of these artworks, watch 'The Showcards', a short film documenting the origins of the collection.

WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE PRINT?
The dimensions listed for each artwork are the original showcard size. The overall dimensions of the Edition is the original showcard size plus a 5cm (2") border on all sides.

WHAT IS AN ARCHIVAL PIGMENT PRINT?
Archival pigment printing is a process which provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction.
In archival pigment printing, no screen or other mechanical devices are used and therefore there is no visible dot screen pattern. By using this process, the image has all the tonalities and hues of the original artwork. Our archival pigment prints are printed on 100% cotton rag fine art paper, using fade-resistant, archival pigment-based inks.
Archival pigment printing is an industry accepted standard for fine art reproduction, seen throughout premier museums and galleries including the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Smithsonian.

ARE THE COLORS OF THE ONLINE IMAGES EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE COLORS OF THE PRINT?
Colors and tones can vary between computer screens. While our screens are calibrated, meaning that they are regulated for color consistency and accuracy, some screens are not. Because of this, the art you receive may look slightly different than the image you see on your screen.

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY PRINTS?
We recommend framing your art as soon as you receive it.  But if you are not going to frame your art right away, we recommend storing it flat in a drawer in its archival sleeve, away from direct sun, heat and humidity. Your Certificate of Authenticity may be stored with your art or filed separately, but be sure to keep it in a safe place.  Always use white cotton or powder-free latex gloves when handling and avoid over-manipulating your prints.
We print on archival fine art paper and use archival pigment inks, thus ensuring the longevity of our prints.

WHAT IS A SHOWCARD?
Showcards are photo collages using film stills that have been cut out and assembled on a board and hand-painted. As such, they are unique works of art, combining old and new painting styles with photographic technology, resulting in dramatic compositions with expressive uses of colour.
