1950s
Hindi commercial cinema had already developed for almost half a century by the 1950s. India’s Independence from British colonial rule in 1947 coincided with the violence of Partition that gave birth to the separate nations of India and Pakistan. This event reshuffled the film industry, making Bombay the centre of Hindi film production.
